No injuries were reported following Sunday morning’s explosion at the wastewater treatment plant in north Lewiston.

Lewiston Fire Department crews responded to the plant at around 7:45 AM after the blast in the control room running a digester started a fire. Crews attacked the fire from the outside, and were on the scene until about 1 p.m.

The impact destroyed the 20-foot by 40-foot one-story building’s foundation, though the plant is still operational.

The blast caused an estimated $3 million to $5 million worth of damage.
