Idaho teacher and astronaut Barbara Morgan received an honorary doctorate from Boise State University this weekend.
Morgan, who flew on the space shuttle Endeavor in August, is just the sixth person to receive an honorary doctoral degree from BSU.
Morgan was a McCall elementary school teacher before joining NASA’s Teacher in Space program. She was a backup to teacher and astronaut Christa McAuliffe on the 1986 mission of Space Shuttle Challenger. Morgan later trained as a NASA mission specialist and has logged over 300 hours of extraterrestrial flight.
