A Louisiana triple-murder suspect who was apprehended in Lewiston last month is recovering at a Shreveport hospital after a second suicide attempt.

On Sunday, Bossier City Louisiana Jail officials found Robert McCoy inside his cell soaked in blood. It’s believed McCoy used part of a plastic disposable razor sleeve to puncture his elbow, then swallowed the razor sleeve.

McCoy showed signs of upper respiratory bleeding and was in fair condition Monday, but his condition has been upgraded to good.

McCoy, 34, is charged in the May 5 shooting deaths of his estranged wife’s son and parents in Bossier City. He was captured May 9 on Lewiston’s Normal Hill while traveling as a passenger in a semi-truck - a handgun believed to be the one used in the killings was also recovered.

While being held in the Nez Perce County Jail he was found hanging from a bedsheet in his cell.

He was extradited back to Louisiana the following week.

Authorities say McCoy will remain on suicide watch once he returns to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility.
