More than 250 firefighters continue to make progress on the 800-acre Church Canyon Fire near Kamiah. Aircraft and other heavy equipment are still being used and hand crews have been working to complete fire line around the fire’s perimeter. Fire Information Officer Jill Cobb says suppression efforts have been focused on preparing for a possible change in weather.

While crews have made significant gains, officials have not set a target date as yet for full containment.

The Idaho Department of Lands has been the lead agency in charge of suppression efforts. Several local volunteer fire departments have also provided support of the lightning-caused blaze that began last Thursday.
