The 2,100-acre Porcupine Fire burning about 20 miles southeast of Elk City has been held in check by a combination of fire crews and mother nature. Information Officer Vickie Guthrie says cooler temperatures and rain showers have allowed crews to gain the upper hand.
Information Officer Vickie Guthrie comments
Full containment estimates are still targeted for October 1st due mostly to the fact that if the fire continues to burn into the wilderness and away from resources, fire managers will likely pull back on full-scale suppression efforts.
