Officials with Idaho’s Southwest District Health department say an elderly woman from Adams County may have died because of West Nile virus.

The district did not release the woman’s name, age or whether she had any additional health problems.

Across the district 16 cases of the mosquito-transmitted West Nile virus have been reported - a total of 34 cases have been reported statewide.

District officials say mosquito activity in the region has slowed because of the cooler nights but that people still need to take precautions to avoid being bitten. Some of the symptoms of West Nile infection include fever, head and body aches, fatigue, vomiting and nausea. (AP)
