Convicted rapist Kevin Coe is expected to testify on Tuesday at the Spokane civil trial that will determine whether he is committed indefinitely as a violent sexual predator.

Coe has maintained his innocence despite a jury convicting him in 1981 for a rape that sent him to prison for nearly 25 years in the South Hill Rapist case. He was to be released from prison in 2006, but the state of Washington says he poses a threat to society and wants him committed indefinitely.

Coe will take the stand as a witness for the state, which gives prosecutors more flexibility in asking questions, as compared to cross-examination.  Coe is expected to testify in his defense later in the trial. (Spokesman Review)
