U.S. Highway 195 between Pullman and the Idaho border has reopened.
The Washington Transportation Department had closed the stretch of roadway after reports of several accidents amid whiteout conditions. Travelers are encouraged to use caution as the highway still has compact snow and ice.
U.S. Highway 12 in Idaho remains closed from Selway River Road to Parachute Hill Road east of Kooskia because of avalanche danger.
Meanwhile, Washington’s three main east-west mountain passes have reopened.
All three Cascade passes were closed for most of New Year’s Day, but crews reopened Interstate 90 across Snoqualmie Pass last night. U.S. Highway 2 over Stevens Pass and U.S. 12 over White Pass reopened Friday morning.
Avalanche warnings remain in effect for the Cascades and Olympics.
The National Weather Service has posted a hazardous weather outlook for most of Eastern Washington, but says the gusty winds, rain and snow should taper off later in the day. (AP)
