Condemned murderer Joseph Duncan has been extradited to California where he is accused of killing of a 10-year-old boy in 1997.
Duncan was taken into Riverside County custody Friday morning to face charges in the kidnapping and murder of Anthony Martinez. Prosecutors say Duncan admitted to killing Martinez while he was being interviewed following his crime spree in north Idaho and Montana.
Last year, Duncan was sentenced to death in federal court for the 2005 kidnapping, torture, and murder of Dylan Groene, 9. The boy and his then-8-year-old sister Shasta were taken from their Coeur d’Alene-area home after Duncan murdered their mother, their mother’s fiancé, and their 13-year-old brother.
Dylan was killed at a Montana campsite, and Duncan was arrested in Coeur d’Alene when he was spotted with Shasta at a restaurant. Duncan received multiple life sentences for the other crimes.
Duncan was being held in a federal death row prison in Indiana before being transferred to California.
He faces the possibility of another death sentence in the Martinez case.
