Lawmakers in Boise could take a look at setting mandatory prison sentences for child abusers.
Under a bill that has yet to be sponsored, a person convicted of lewd conduct with a minor younger than 16 would face a minimum seven years in prison – those convicted of sexual abuse of a child under 16 would get at least five years behind bars.
However, former Idaho Supreme Court Chief Justice Linda Copple Trout says it’s important for judges to have sentencing options when dealing with individual crimes. (AP)
