House lawmakers narrowly killed a plan to put Idaho government spending online after some members raised concern its price tag would burden the state’s budget at a time of shrinking revenues.

The chamber deadlocked 32-32, defeating the proposal – six representatives were absent.

Hayden Republican Rep. Phil Hart conceded his searchable Internet database plan could have a $250,000 price tag, but argued states like Missouri have saved money with such programs that allow citizens to scrutinize spending.

That didn’t convince foes, who said the goals were laudable but too expensive. (AP)
