Authorities have released the names of a Nez Perce tribal member who was shot to death and another that was critically wounded by an Idaho State Police trooper after a high-speed chase that began on the Nez Perce Reservation near Lewiston Monday night.
The FBI and ISP on Tuesday identified the dead man as Randall Ellenwood, 50, and the wounded man as Ricardo Rodriguez, 37. Rodriguez was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
FBI Public Information officer Juan Becerra says the chase started about 5:30 p.m. with an attempted traffic stop for reckless driving and ended when the two men got out of the vehicle and confronted the officer at a residence located off Cottonwood Creek Road near Culdesac.

State police said the officer, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after the shooting but was not seriously hurt. The FBI is investigating because the chase began on the reservation and involves tribal members. (AP)
