ISP releases details into deadly shooting; trooper identified

Idaho State PoliceThe Idaho State Police held a press conference Friday releasing more details into the deadly shooting earlier this month in a rural area near Culdesac involving ISP Trooper Jeffrey Talbott and two Nez Perce Tribal members.

ISP Region 2 Captain Lonnie Richardson says the incident began as a simple traffic stop after a citizen’s complaint of a reckless driver.

The criminal aspect of the investigation is ongoing by the FBI while an administrative investigation continues by ISP. Trooper Talbott remains on administrative leave and is recovering from his injuries.

Officials say its just the second case of an ISP officer in this region having to use deadly force on a suspect since 1996 following a Lewiston bank robbery chase that ended in Idaho County.
