Agencies prepare for wildfire season

snowhole-fireSuppression efforts for regional wildland firefighting agencies in the lower elevations have already begun. Meanwhile, agencies charged with battling blazes in the higher elevations and backcountry are a few weeks behind in terms of wildfire potential.

Despite several large wildfires in recent years on the Craig Mountain District that have consumed several thousand acres, fuel loads remain high in the forests and canyon areas.

Outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to exercise caution with regard to campfires, chainsaws and other spark-inducing equipment. Officials also advise forest users to carry a shovel, bucket and a water source if possible while visiting public lands.
