A spokesman with the Idaho Department of Water Resources says the study will look at various options in the Teton River basin. Officials say the state and federal bureau would split the $800,000 cost of the study to look at ways to add 100,000 acre-feet of water storage in the basin. An acre-foot is enough water to cover one acre with a foot of water.
Bureau of Land Management officials say that once the agreement is signed, work on the study, which will look at many storage options, could begin as soon as this summer.
