Authorities have recaptured two 20-year-old inmates who escaped from the North Idaho Correctional Institution in Cottonwood Sunday night.
Law enforcement and correction personnel say Richard Nieves and Ben Perez were captured near the prison following an accident involving four-wheelers – both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are being evaluated at a local hospital.
The two are believed to have scaled a fence at the medium security facility about 6:05 p.m. Sunday night.
Nieves was serving a four-to-seven year term for injury to a child in Blaine County, while Perez was doing three-to-ten years for criminal possession of a financial transaction and forgery devices, and burglary in Minidoka County.
Both men were being held under NICI’s retained jurisdiction program and were eligible to be considered for release in October.
Prosecutors will determine if the two will face escape charges.
