ISP: Idaho crime rate drops 7.9 percent

crimeinidaho2008Idaho’s crime rate dropped by nearly 8 percent last year, as the Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification released its annual “Crime in Idaho” report for 2008.

The report is a synopsis of statewide crime statistics gathered from law enforcement agencies across Idaho. The state’s group ‘A’ offenses fell 6.6 percent from 2007, pushing the crime rate down 7.9 percent.

Nearly 3,500 violent crimes were reported, which were down 4.1 percent, and 30 hate crime incidents were reported in the state, which was a 21 percent drop. Crimes against persons, crimes against society, and property crime all showed lower levels than 2007.

The exception was a 0.4 percent uptick in the number of assaults on Idaho law enforcement officers – 253. However, no Idaho law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in 2007.
