The man accused of killing two men and injuring another during a 6,500-mile crime spree across the West two years ago has agreed to plead guilty to murdering a University of Idaho student.
As part of a plea deal with Latah County prosecutors, John Delling plans to plead guilty to second-degree murder in the death of David Boss.
Court records say that Delling admitted to police that he shot and injured former high school classmate Jacob Thompson in Tuscon, Arizona on March 20, 2007, then killed David Boss in Boss’ Moscow apartment on March 30, before killing Bradley Morse in Boise April 2 – Delling was arrested in Sparks, Nevada the next day, driving Morse’s car.
Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson says he filed the paperwork Wednesday and that the Boss murder case will be transferred to Ada County because that’s where the victims’ families are and Delling already has a working relationship with attorneys there.
No court date has been set yet, but Thompson says the state plans to seek a life sentence for the crimes. The minimum sentence for second degree murder is 10 years in prison, and each sentence would be served concurrently.
Delling spent most of 2008 in the care of the state Health and Welfare Department to receive medical treatment for paranoid schizophrenia. He was also subjected to two mental evaluations to determine if he could stand trial for murder.
