Idaho soil commission selects former Craig staffer

id_soil_conservation_commissionAn ex-staffer for former Idaho Senator Larry Craig has been named the new administrator of the Idaho Soil Conservation Commission.
Sara Schmidt of Meridian was a legislative assistant to Craig, as well as a former executive vice president of the Idaho Cattle Association.
Most recently, she worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, helping lead its western region.
Soil Conservation Commission Chairman Dwight Horsch believes Schmidt will make a fluid transition and help continue and strengthen partnerships with conservation districts and other stakeholders across the state.
Among other things, the commission helps oversee state programs aimed at groundwater pollution in Idaho’s 51 soil conservation districts.
Schmidt replaces acting administrator Tony Bennett. (AP)
