The regional director for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for Idaho, Utah, and Montana is leaving his post for another FBI position in Alabama.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Tim Fuhrman, who currently oversees 135 agents, will step down in November to take over the FBI’s Mobile, Ala.-based division, which covers 36 counties in the area. He worked in that office from 1994 to 2004. Fuhrman began in Salt Lake City in April 2005.

Of the hundreds of cases the FBI offices in the three states  have handled during his tenure, Fuhrman says the ones that stand out the most involve victimized children.

Fuhrman says he’s proud of investigations that ended in convictions for those that kidnapped, abused or killed children. That includes Joseph Duncan, who received death sentences for murdering a couple and two children in Idaho and Montana in 2005.

Fuhrman, a 28-year FBI veteran, noted several other significant cases that occurred on his watch, including the pursuit of polygamous church leader Warren Jeffs, and a sweeping investigation into artifact looting in the Four Corners area that culminated this summer.

Fuhrman’s replacement is expected to be named in about a month. (AP)
