After improperly awarding a contract to a private company to run its cafeteria, the Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy has told state auditors it’s taking steps to remedy problems.
The 2-year contract starting in January 2008 to run the Meridian facility’s dining hall had gone to a company – even though its bid of $658,612 was nearly $121,000 more than a competing proposal.
Auditors concluded in June that irregularities by bid evaluators resulted in the contract being awarded improperly.
Now, officials at the academy say they’ve made changes to prevent bias from creeping into judging.
Among other things, they’ve revamped the team that decides who contracts as well as simplified scoring.
According to a follow-up report by legislative auditors issued Wednesday, “These scores will allow for consistent, unbiased selection of professional services contractors.” (AP)
