Wildfire burns 1,600 acres in Asotin County

Firefighters battling strong winds were able to contain an Asotin County wildfire Sunday afternoon.

The fire, on a hillside west of Clemens Road, scorched about 1,600 acres.

Dozens of area firefighters responded to the blaze at about 2 p.m. and had the fire contained around 4:20 p.m.

One volunteer with the city of Asotin Fire Department suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

No homes or other structures were damaged in the blaze, though several homes were directly threatened.
