League coaches: LC women the favorite; men tabbed 4th

lcsc_logo1thumbnail1The Lewis-Clark State women’s basketball team has been tabbed as the favorite to win the Frontier Conference by the league coaches. The two-time defending conference tournament champion Warriors received seven first-place votes and 49 total points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

LC head coach Brian Orr says being the pre-season favorite can be both good and bad depending on how a team responds to the challenge.

Carroll College received one first-place vote and was picked to finish second, followed by defending regular season champion Westminster, Montana State-Northern, Rocky Mountain, Montana Tech, the University of Great Falls and Montana Western.

LC will tip-off its season with an exhibition contest against Washington State University in Pullman November 1st.

Meanwhile, the LC men’s basketball team has been picked to finish 4th in the conference.  The Warriors received 28 points, which ties them with Montana State-Northern.

Westminster was chosen as the league favorite with 47 points and five first-place votes. Defending national champion Rocky Mountain received 3 first-place votes and 44 points, just slightly behind the Griffins.  Montana Western was picked 3rd, while Carroll College was tabbed 6th followed by the University of Great Falls and Montana Tech.

The Warrior men open the 2009-2010 season on the road October 30th in College Place, Washington against Johnson and Wales.
