AAA: Pump prices on the rise

gasoline.jpgThe American Automobile Association says a weak dollar and investor optimism tied to positive economic news is playing out at pumps as U.S. gas prices have risen a dime in just the past week.
Based on AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the U.S. average price for regular gasoline has risen ten cents in the past week to $2.58.

Meanwhile, Idahoans who had been paying as much as 22 cents more than the U.S. average during the past month, are getting some relief with an average per gallon price of $2.61 – down 11 cents in the past 30 days.

Dave Carlson with Triple-A Idaho says recent stockmarket interest in crude oil is driving the price upward.

Carlson says while gas prices are expected to rise in the short term, less demand for fuel in the fall and winter months should counteract any potential spikes.

Idaho gas prices vary dramatically from region to region. Boise’s average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.61; Pocatello is at $2.43; and Coeur d’Alene’s average price is $2.69.
