First significant snow in Washington mountains

snoqualmiePassThe National Weather Service says the moisture behind a cold front moving through Washington will bring the first significant snowfall of the season to the mountains.

A winter storm warning is in effect through 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters say the freezing level will drop to 4,500 feet by midday Monday and 3,000 feet by Monday night in the Cascades.  Snow is expected on Stevens, White, Washington and Snoqualmie passes with accumulations of 6 to 12 inches and up to 18 inches in places.

The cold front is bringing rain showers to the Western Washington lowlands. Forecasters say snow showers are possible this week across Eastern Washington where the snow could start accumulating by Thursday. (AP)
