Daylight savings time ends Sunday

alarm-clockDaylight savings time ends Sunday morning at 2 a.m.

When setting clocks back one hour, Avista suggests changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs, or CFLs.

With longer fall and winter nights, lights are turned on for extended periods of time which can impact your home’s energy use.  A CFL can use up to 75 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb, but provides the same amount of light.

Each CFL can potentially save about $30 in energy costs over the life of the bulb, which is seven times longer than an incandescent bulb.
