Idaho afterschool program grants up for grabs

educationhands1The state Department of Education says $1.7 million in federal grant money is available to Idaho school districts and other organizations for afterschool programs.

The department says grant applications will be accepted through Jan. 29 and funding will be awarded during the 2010-2011 school year.

The grants are available through a U.S. Department of Education program that aims to provide students with activities such as art, music, recreation and sports when they aren’t in school.

The money is available to school districts, municipalities, community organizations, faith-based organizations and private corporations, providing funding to successful applicants for up to five years. (AP)
