Lewiston votes for change

vote6Less than a third of Lewiston’s registered voters cast ballots and the majority voiced a desire for change as two of three city council incumbents were unseated following the City of Lewiston Election.
Newcomers led the way as Brad Cannon was the top vote getter with 3,679 votes or just over 19 percent and Thyra Stevenson received 2,935 votes or 15.23 percent. Former councilor Kevin Poole will return to city government after tallying 2,923 votes or 15.17 percent.
The only incumbent to retain his seat was Dennis Ohrtman who was re-elected with 2,660 votes or 13.81 percent. Incumbents Jim Kluss and Mayor Doug Havens finished a distant 5th and 6th respectively in the race for four positions on the council – Kluss garnered 1,999 votes or 10.38 percent, while Havens received 1,953 votes or 10.14 percent.
Candidates John Mock and Zach Hasenoehrl also fell short in their bids – Mock received 1,801 votes or 9.35 percent, while Hasenoehrl pulled in 1,316 votes or 6.83 percent.
A total of 5,060 ballots were cast and overall voter turnout was just under 31 percent.
