Elections: Asotin County voters pass EMS levies

All three emergency medical service levies in Asotin County passed, with each receiving about 77 percent approval.

The Asotin County and city of Asotin EMS levies will be used to pay the cost of a contract with the city of Lewiston to station an ambulance in the Clarkston Heights.  The county’s levy calls for 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, and shifts the levy from Clarkston.

The city of Asotin will be able to cover its contractual cost for staffing the Lewiston ambulance, providing about nearly $29,000, or 40 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. The two-year contract with Lewiston is for about $382,000 for the first year and will increase in 2011 by the percentage of wage increases paid to Lewiston EMS personnel.

Clarkston’s levy will go toward operating its new ambulance service slated to begin Jan. 1.  The levy is expected to generate just under $414,000.
