It looks like Garfield County’s public hospital district will receive funding through a capital levy to fix the hospital’s deteriorating roof and exterior walls after 67 percent of county voters voiced approval.
With 57 percent turnout, voters approved a tax rate of 35 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, expected to provide $70,000 in revenue.
Receiving even greater approval was a measure to annex the city of Pomeroy into the Garfield County Fire Protection District No. 1, with 93 percent of city voters giving the measure a nod and 88 percent of county voters also favoring the move.
Both the levy and annexation measure will need to maintain 60 percent approval by the time Washington counties certify their ballots in three weeks.
