Idaho State Representative Ken Roberts, of Donnelly, has withdrawn from the 2010 1st Congressional District Republican primary.

Roberts says he’s dealing with an unexpected health issue that has hampered his run.

Roberts, the Idaho House GOP majority caucus chairman, trailed GOP rival Vaughn Ward in fundraising for the primary in May. He’d brought in nearly $55,000, in addition to a $7,000 personal loan, between July and September, while Ward had collected twice that amount from contributors during the period.

Roberts says he’s spoken with at least two people who plan to run on a campaign platform of conservative values for the seat now held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Walt Minnick.

Roberts withdrew from the race a day after his campaign chief, Kevin McGowan, resigned. (AP)
