Nez Perce tribal members will get $1,000 stimulus payments from the tribe under a plan approved by tribal leaders this week.
The allocation uses money from an account created after a legal settlement with Avista utilities more than a decade ago, instead of cash from the tribe’s two casinos. The money will be distributed in December.
Tribal members voted in September to create the stimulus payments using casino money, but tribal leaders found that there wasn’t enough time to get that plan approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission. (AP)
