Idahoans are being invited into the classroom, as educators in the Gem State and across the country celebrate American Education Week.

This year’s theme is “Great public schools – a basic right and our responsibility.”

Idaho Education Association President Sherri Wood says the celebration is a reminder of the importance of providing every child with a quality public education from kindergarten through college. It’s a goal she sees as key in helping children grow and prosper as adults, and it takes partnerships to achieve that success.

Wood invites Idahoans to see for themselves what’s going on in local public schools. She says arranging to volunteer is a great to get a first-hand look.

Some public schools will offer special open houses, parent days, education support professional events, and salutes to substitute teachers during the week. American Education Week has been celebrated since 1921.
