Gov. Butch Otter has proclaimed November 2009 Adoption Awareness Month in Idaho, hoping to draw attention to the plight of hundreds of young children across the state seeking a permanent, stable home.

During a ceremony in Boise on Tuesday, the governor stressed the important role adoption plays in strengthening family bonds which he says ultimately leads to a stronger nation.

One of eight children, Otter also touched on his family’s personal experience with children without stable parents.

The declaration states, among other things, that every child – regardless of physical, medical or emotional disabilities, age or race – deserves a permanent, caring family and the opportunity to grow in a secure environment, and that adoptive parents who open their hearts and homes to children, all deserve community support and respect.
