Treasure Valley coalition crafts plan to save UI extension office in Parma

PrintA group of Treasure Valley growers and officials have put together a plan to keep the University of Idaho from closing its extension center in Parma.

$4.7 million in state budget cuts to agricultural research and extension at the UI prompted the university to recommend closing extension offices in Parma, Sandpoint and elsewhere.

The mayor of Parma says the Treasure Valley Agriculture Coalition has crafted a plan that uses budget reductions and pledges from farmers and commodity associations totaling more than $250,000 the town’s center need to operate though the end of the fiscal year in June.

The UI has not announced any official agreement.
