Hurdles remain in county’s bid to manage Dworshak State Park

The Clearwater County Commission says plans to take over management of Dworshak State Park are not final and some hurdles remain before any agreement is signed.  Commissioner Don Ebert says one of the biggest obstacles the county faces is the state’s decision to begin removing vital park equipment.

Despite the concerns, Ebert remains optimistic that a deal can still be reached to keep the park open.

On Tuesday, Idaho State Parks and Recreation Director Nancy Merrill announced a sublease plan had been drawn up between the state and the county commission.

The plan, which would be a collaborative effort between the county, state and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would allow the county to take over management of the park and keep it from closing amid budget cuts.
