The Idaho Army National Guard says 16 solders are being deployed to Afghanistan as part of efforts to reduce the threat of improvised explosive devices.
The guardsmen from Operational Support Airlift Command are being deployed as part of Task Force ODIN – short for Observe, Detect, Identify, Neutralize.
Eight of the 16 guardsmen were scheduled to leave Sunday for a week of training in Georgia, and then on to Fort Hood in Texas for more training before serving in Afghanistan for about 10 months.
The other eight guardsmen are scheduled to leave in mid-January. (AP)
