Washington liquor may have more holiday mall shops

Washington’s four state liquor stores that opened in shopping malls for the holiday season didn’t make as much money as the State Liquor Control Board had hoped.

Spokesman Brian Smith says the number of temporary stores still could expand to eight malls for the next shopping season, but first the Liquor Control Board needs to finish its analysis of the program.

Smith says the four stores turned a $150,000 profit. The goal was for mall liquor stores to bring in $3.8 million over two years.

The first four stores were located at the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham, The Commons at Federal Way, and Pacific Place in Seattle. (AP)
