The Idaho House aims to help kids graduate from school early, if they prove they’ve mastered the courses.
Monday’s vote for the Master Advancement Pilot Project was 61-7.
Supporters hope to save Idaho money and move qualified kids more quickly into college. Idaho now pays districts $4,593 annually for each public school student. Should a student graduate early, he or she would receive 35 percent, with 35 percent going to the district and 30 percent returning to the general fund.
Foes fear the measure would promote a superficial education.
The measure, which calls for 21 of 115 districts and three charter schools to participate for six years, now heads to the Senate. (AP)
