The Idaho House has approved a bill that would require Idahoans provide photo identification when they vote.
Under the measure passed 64-6 on Monday, voters without identification such as a valid driver’s license or passport would have to sign an affidavit attesting to their identity.
House Majority Leader Mike Moyle says his bill will ensure voters are who they claim to be. The Star Republican said he’s not sure how to address out-of-state voters who can’t provide identification in person.
Pocatello Democrat Donna Boe opposed the measure, saying it would discourage the elderly, minorities and people with disabilities from voting.
The bill now heads to the Senate. (AP)
