The National Education Association’s ‘Read Across America’ kicked off Tuesday in schools around Idaho.
The yearly event marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Seuss and encourages kids to read just for the fun of it.
Boise third grade teacher Emilie Eisenberger says the goal is to inspire a life-long love of reading, and that means reading for fun – not just for school studies.

Local celebrities, legislators and volunteers from the community are visiting classrooms throughout the state to read Dr. Seuss classics to kids. Eisenberger says that kind of mentoring can get a child hooked on reading.

Some school cafeterias are even serving up green eggs and ham this week for lunch, as a salute to Dr. Seuss.
