The Idaho House has passed a measure that would make businesses that hire workers, pay them at least $35,000, and offer health-care benefits could be eligible for a one-time, $2,000 tax credit.
The House sent the measure to the Senate on a 68-2 vote.
The bipartisan measure has the backing of both House Minority Leader John Rusche, D-Lewiston, and House Majority Leader Rep. Mike Moyle, R-Star. Rusche says adding incentives for businesses to bolster their work forces will help Idaho’s economy as it recovers from the deepest recession in decades.
Businesses would have to pay a worker $61,000 annually for them to claim all of the credit in one year. But the measure allows companies to claim any unused portion of the credit over five years. (AP)
