Lewiston City Manager Jay Krauss has been fired by the Lewiston City Council.

Council members met in a closed session Monday night, voting 4-2 in favor of a separation agreement that places Krauss on administrative leave effective immediately. Mayor Kevin Poole, and fellow councilors Brad Cannon, Thyra Stevenson and Dennis Ohrtman voted in favor of Krauss’ removal, while James Kleeburg and Matthew Carlson voted against. Newly appointed councilor Tim Broemeling abstained.

None of the councilors commented on why the action was taken.

Under the terms of the separation agreement, Krauss, who had served as city manager for about 4 years, will be paid what amounts to a year’s salary plus insurance benefits through December.

The city also agreed to prepare a list of Krauss’ accomplishments, thank him for his service, and explain that the separation is based on the dynamics between the council and city manager’s position, and not for any legal, moral, or ethical reasons.

Poole says Dan Marsh, the city’s administrative services director, will serve as acting city manager.
