Officials in the state of Washington say they’ll continue rejecting parolees and probationers from Arkansas despite the policy apparently violating an interstate compact.
Washington officials stopped accepting Arkansas parolees and probationers after former Arkansas inmate Maurice Clemmons was accused of shooting and killing four police officers in Lakewood.
The Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision said this week that Washington can’t legally impose requirements that are not part of an interstate compact concerning parolees and probationers.
Washington Department of Corrections Secretary Eldon Vail calls the current rules inadequate and says the opinion doesn’t change his state’s position. (AP)
