Les Schwab pays $2 million to settle EEOC suit

Les Schwab Tire Centers has paid $2 million to settle a hiring discrimination suit brought four years ago by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The EEOC says the company denied tire bay jobs to women, and those positions were a prerequisite for moving up the ladder into management.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle, alleged that the tire sales company failed to hire qualified women for sales and service jobs at its stores in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Montana, Nevada and Utah starting in 2004.

The EEOC says Les Schwab has also agreed to provide the commission with periodic reports showing it is in compliance with anti-discrimination policies.  (AP)
