A campaign designed to warn Idaho teens about the dangers of using methamphetamine is on track to get $500,000 from the state, despite concerns about whether the campaign works.
The state has contributed $1.5 million to the Idaho Meth Project over the past two years.
Earlier this month members of the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee approved another half-million dollars for fiscal year 2011. The budget must be approved by the House and Senate.
But several Democrats on the committee have voted against the funding, saying they have doubts about results. Boise Sen. Elliot Werk says the group hasn’t shown any data suggesting its advertisements are responsible for changing attitudes about meth.
Still, Republicans, including Huston Sen. Patti Anne Lodge say the project is worth funding at least for now. (Idaho Statesman, AP)
