Lewis-Clark State College President Dr. Dene Thomas has agreed to become the ninth president in the history of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
Thomas, who will become the first woman president at Fort Lewis in its 99-year history, will begin her new duties on July 1st.
Thomas says coming to a decision to leave LCSC was very difficult, but the lure of a new challenge at Fort Lewis was too much to pass up.

Since becoming the first female president at LCSC nine years ago, Thomas has steered the school to six straight record enrollments and was instrumental in expanding educational programs, on-campus housing and parking. Thomas also pushed for and succeeded in the building of the Activity Center and most recently the school’s new nursing and health sciences building – Sacajawea Hall.
When asked what she’s most proud of during her tenure, Thomas mentioned the people.

Thomas, who signed a 3-year contract, will continue to work at LCSC through the spring semester and would like to still be at the college when the President’s Tea is held on June 25th.
