Idaho educators meet for IEA delegate assembly

500 educators are meeting in Boise Friday and through the weekend for the Idaho Education Association Delegate Assembly.

IEA members will develop strategies to try to make sure smaller budgets have as little impact as possible on classrooms.

Idaho’s Teacher of the Year, Kelli Smith, an eighth-grade math teacher at Sacajawea Junior High in Lewiston, is speaking at the event, reminding teachers of what they can accomplish in any budget scenario.

Kelli Smith comments on teachers dealing with decreased funding.

Smith views part of her mission this year as being a cheerleader for teachers around the state.

Kelli Smith says teachers need to keep their eye on the ball.

The event will also be a fundraiser for the IEA Idaho Children’s Fund, which pays for clothes, school supplies and medical care for needy public school students.

The 118th Delegate Assembly is at the Boise Centre on the Grove Convention Center.
