Support grows for Fernandez to be named LCSC president

Tony Fernandez

More education officials are voicing their support for promoting Lewis-Clark State College Provost Tony Fernandez to the president’s chair.

Members of the LCSC faculty have said they wanted to forego the time and expense of a national search to replace Dene Thomas, who accepted the president’s job at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., last month after nine years as the head of LCSC.

On Tuesday, the LCSC Foundation Executive Committee unanimously voted its support for Fernandez as the college’s next leader.  The foundation sent a letter to State Board of Education President Paul Agidius expressing its desire to see Fernandez appointed LCSC president.

The board has yet to announce its plans.  It’s next regular meeting is Thursday at the University of Idaho in Moscow.
