AUDIO: Fernandez named interim LCSC president; national search will be conducted

The Idaho State Board of Education has selected Lewis-Clark State College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Tony Fernandez as the college’s interim president, while a national search will be conducted.

Fernandez, who has been LCSC’s provost since 2003, was chosen to step in for Dene Thomas, who is leaving this summer.

Before serving as LCSC’s provost, Fernandez, 62, was a dean at Fort Hays State University in Kansas for eight years and a professor of biology and plant pathology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and the University of Wyoming at Laramie. He did his undergraduate work in Southern California, and earned his doctoral degree from Washington State University.

Thomas has been president at LCSC since 2001. She announced last month she has accepted the presidency at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and will begin those duties on July 1.
